CLUES EXPLANATION TO THE MISSING LITTLE YELLOW HARD HATS
Thanks to everyone who participated in the MISSING hard hat contest!
Enquiring minds want to know! You asked, so starting from week #1, here are all the clues, followed by the solutions!
WEEK #1
REWARD: $200 Ticketmaster Gift Card
- Visual clue on display on the tent card inside Semiahmoo stores.
- ”Only a jewellery store has more diamonds.” (Comparison between diamonds
and a baseball diamond)
- ”When it’s going, going, gone. That’s where it is.” (Second reference to a
baseball diamond)
- ”It’s 360 feet from home, give or take.” (Third reference)
Answer: behind the scoreboard at Softball City
WEEK #2
REWARD: $200 SEMIAHMOO SHOPPING CENTRE GIFT CARD
- Visual clue on display on the tent card inside Semiahmoo stores.
- “If we've told you once, we've told you scour this many downward
graduations.” (Reference to cliché: ‘If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a
thousand times’ + ‘downward graduations’ = stairs)
- “After a very long flight to the brine.” (After a very long [flight of stairs] to the
brine [sea])
- “Bottom of the lengthy escalier in Paris.” (If you say the word ‘Escalier’ in Paris,
it means ‘stairway’. So, it literally means ‘At the bottom of the lengthy [English
translation of the French word ‘escalier’’])
- “Bottom of 35 Hitchcock film plus 962.” (1935 Hitchcock film = ‘39 Steps’. Hence,
39 steps + 962 = 1001. Translation: 'bottom of 1001')
Answer: near the bottom of 1001 steps in Ocean Park
WEEK #3
REWARD: $250 HENNESSEY SALON & SPA GIFT CARD
- Visual clue on display on the tent card inside Semiahmoo stores.
- “Crunge at 3:00 onwards with plaque.” (Reference to ‘The Crunge’ - a Led
Zeppelin song. If you listen to the song from 3:00 minutes onwards, you’ll hear
the lead singer ad-libbing the following: ‘I’m just trying to find the bridge – has
anybody seen the bridge?’ While a perceptive sleuth might have gotten this
reference, he or she wouldn’t know which bridge – unless they find the one with
the ‘plaque’)
- “Are you dedicated to this hunt 24/7? How about 3/85?” (This particular bridge
was ‘dedicated’ in March 1985 or, 3/85)
- “It’s quite lengthy, yet just a 304800 micron span.” (304800 microns =
12 inches. 12 inches = a foot. Another word for a ‘span’ is a bridge.
Hence the literal translation – ‘It’s quite lengthy, yet just a foot bridge’)
- “Befuddled bride forgot. That’s the thing.” (‘befuddled’ indicates that the word
or words that follow make up an anagram – so rearrange ‘bride forgot’ and you
get ‘footbridge’)
Answer: on the footbridge at Marine Drive and 160th Street
WEEK #4
REWARD: $200 PRICESMART FOODS GIFT CARD
- Visual clue on display on the tent card inside Semiahmoo stores.
- “Eden was, behind where one reflects amongst stems.” (Eden was [a
garden] behind where one reflects [a bench] amongst stems [bush stems])
- “Nude Dragons did it. So, do it to wire waste and follow the links to G.W.B.” (if
you Google ‘Nude Dragons’, you’ll discover that the grunge band ‘Soundgarden’
reformed for a one off show in Seattle. Rather than be billed as ‘Soundgarden’,
they created an ‘anagram’ of their name: (Nude Dragons). So, what this clue is
saying is: Soundgarden [created an anagram], so do it to ‘wire waste’. (Anagram
of ‘wire waste’ = ‘Water Wise’). Now, follow the (chain) links to G.W.B. [G.W.B
= the initials on the bench] next to the ‘Bush’ where the hat was hidden)
- “A place with 20 characters. Find the sign and pace around 100 times!”
(‘Southmere Village Park’ is 20 characters long. If you were to find the sign
and take 100 paces ‘around’ the path, you’d have been adjacent to the hat)
- “40.02°N 105.25°W is the name, now look for fowl play.” (If you Googled the
coordinates, you’d have discovered that it’s the city of ‘Boulder’. As stated, ‘that
is the name’. Now look for fowl [geese] [at] play)
Answer: at the bottom of a bush behind a bench in Southmere Village Park near the
duck ponds
WEEK #5

(1976 Stills-Young album = ‘Long May You Run’. ‘Third’ track on Ratt’s ‘Out of
the Cellar’ album = ‘Round and Round’. Fifth song on Coldplay’s ‘Parachute’s
album’ = ‘Yellow’. So….Long may you run + round and round + yellow)
- “Initially, you’ll find it within some pointless apparition and in a word, amongst
roundup righteousness!” (The initials of South Surrey Athletic Park (SSAP)
can be found in ‘Pointle[ss ap]parition’ and the word ‘upright’ can be found
amongst ‘round[up right]eousness’)

012. Where am I?” (A common synonym for perpendicular and vertical

get b, u, e, n, a, v, i, s, t, a, a, v, e. Additionally, ‘haul’ sounds like ‘hall’)
- ”White Rock is behind it and vice versa!” (Logical enough?)
